So the first half of my senior year is done and over with. Let's say the weeks leading to Finals were pretty brutal. I guess I can use this break time to draw/sketch more. I'm actually trying to experiment with different styles now (I'll upload what I've been playing around with sometime soon) and trying to move away from the anime-ish style. I have nothing against it...it's just that I think it's time to mature and create something that I can call my own.
The anime art style has been a big influence but I feel like it's held me back from what I could do. There's a certain limit to what one can do with such a stylistic art (and from what you could probably see from deviantart...it's EVERYWHERE) and soon enough, every piece of anime art starts to look like every other piece of anime art. Now don't get me wrong. There are AMAZING artists out there that can meld the style into their own way (i.e., Miyazaki, Osamu Tezuka, Tetsuya Nomura, etc.) along with plenty of other artists (including friends). My issue is that the concept of "anime" has become skewed and now every kid, adult, and their mother are adopting it and calling it "my own style." It's not your style. It's simply a common way to draw cartoons. And yes, I consider anime "cartoons." In addition, I see many individuals butchering the genre. Hell, it's all over the front page (along with tits and half-naked people) and I'm getting sick of seeing half-assed art when many other artists' work deserve to be featured and shown ( and I don't consider myself as one of those). I used to like anime (and I still do) but when you get people savagely attacking others' critiques and refusing to learn a simple concept like ANATOMY (God forbid), plus let's not forget the WEABOOS...you tend to not want to touch the genre anymore.
I'm not attacking anime. If you like to draw in that style, more power to ya. If it helps you to draw and develop your own thing, even better. Heck, I did it and probably will still do it for awhile until I find something I like. What I have problems with is people not even attempting to draw and instead, slapping a doodle together and calling it art and then go on a rampage whenever someone says something slightly negative about it.
Am I bitter? Not really. Am I embarrassed and slightly angry at what's happening to deviantart and "art" in general. Yes. Yes I am.
If you're curious as to why I'm on a rant (especially about deviantart) here's the link: [link]
Prepared to be depressed.
Anyways, I'm out. I'll be back though. I gotta wrap Christmas presents for the upcoming bash that is called "the family reunion."
Oh and another thing, I've got a Tumblr: Tumblr
Check it out cause I'll probably update it more often than here in addition to adding my art there too.

Well, enough of that. I trust that you are doing well?
